Why I Need to Eat Chocolates

I confess I have such a sweet tooth :) So I need to justify what I eat :)

The Nourishing Value of Chocolate

A piece of dark chocolate with 70% cocoa (the best chocolate in my opinion) contains per 100gr, 9gr of protein, 40gr lipids and 14gr of vegetable fibers. Therefore and beyond any doubt chocolate is an important source of vegetable proteins and fibers that are necessary for the human organism.

Cooking chocolate is rich in magnesium, potassium and phosphorus. Plain cooking chocolate contains 520 calories per 100gr.

We have connected chocolate with enjoyment. Hence, it does not hurt to consume it in sensible portions and good quality. If however health problems, like sugar diabetes, exist one needs to be careful. Chocolate also has therapeutic properties, for example it alleviates headaches. Latest research findings proved that chocolate is good for the heart (always in sensible quantities). It is an antidepressant. No matter what the reason for not feeling well, psychologically, a bar of chocolate will make us feel better.

Chocolate is considered by many as an aphrodisiac and a stimulant. History mentions that Napoleon A’ consumed great quantities of chocolate on his missions of war. The effect of chocolate on libido is ambiguous. Maya stories report that the bishop Diego de Panda, personal priest of Cortez, supported that 10 grains of chocolate were enough for a whole night of enjoyment with a courtesan.

Insomnia Sucks

I have been battling with it for almost a month now and my body clock is thrown way out of schedule, wreaking havoc into my work and family schedule.

I’m grumpy, lethargic and oh so very temperamental. I feel bad for the kids.

So I tried not sleeping the whole day. Bad idea. I catnapped for 30 minutes and was AWAKE the whole night.

I tried just laying down on the bed. Bad idea. I felt so restless.

I tried WORKING all night. Bad idea. My head was spinning and my eyes aching and I still cannot sleep.

I tried not drinking Coke (caffeine). Bad idea. I turned into a monster.

Any tips? There are 43 tips found here. I might as well try it one by one?

A little background on insomnia:

Insomnia is a symptom, not a stand-alone diagnosis or a disease. By definition, insomnia is "difficulty initiating or maintaining sleep, or both" and it may be due to inadequate quality or quantity of sleep. Insomnia is not defined by a specific number of hours of sleep that one gets, since individuals vary widely in their sleep needs and practices. Although most of us know what insomnia is and how we feel and perform after one or more sleepless nights, few seek medical advice. Many people remain unaware of the behavioral and medical options available to treat insomnia.

Insomnia is generally classified based on the duration of the problem. Not everyone agrees on one definition, but generally:

  • symptoms lasting less than one week are classified as transient insomnia,
  • symptoms between one to three weeks are classified as short-term insomnia, and
  • those longer than three weeks are classified as chronic insomnia.

It’s all about branding and marketing

As much as we would want to buy products based on their quality and effectiveness, we have to admit that we are instantly lured to products which are branded and marketed effectively.

Case in point – I was at the grocery looking to buy laundry detergent and fabric softener. Times are hard these days so I make an effort to compare prices, but not skimp on quality. I am torn between two laundry detergent brands. One is just a fraction lower than the price, has great packaging (claims to seep through dirt in 30 minutes, with just soaking). The one is pricier by a little (just a little), has so-so packaging. I still went with the second one. Why? Because I saw its commercial and how the demo really works – they even show a comparison with other brands.

Think me gullible? You can count majority of the people that way as well. It is all about marketing and advertising. How will people buy if you don’t push the product? With all the competition, advertising and brand recognition is important. A Marketing Company like Brand Identity Guru knows that.

So not unless you have tried and tested products before, admit that you are also affected with marketing concepts and strategies.

Art Storage

I love going to museums when I was a kid. It gave me so much excitement seeing “Old” stuff and finding out its history. I wish I can go to tours these days but my husband isn’t the type who will go with me.

I often wonder how curators and museum keepers keep their art work safe. Pieces of art found in galleries and museums are worth more than a thousand dollars and are considered rare and precious like diamonds.

I have heard of museum who needed to go under renovation. They needed to have their artwork and other artifacts moved to a safer place. An Art Moving Company like the Fine Art Movers in Boston can keep art work like those safe. They are a company who does custom made orders – if you need special arrangements for your rare pieces, like temperature, light control, humidity control and moist control, they can do it. They even have a warehouse service you can rent for storage. They even have a vault too. They consult with you regarding every detail of your move and storage. They can even make custom racks for the storage of your art pieces. They have a fire suppression system that is checked quarterly and a state of the art security system.

Art pieces which are invaluable need to be taken cared of. Fine Art Movers have the same goal.

Soccer Anyone?

My son, Matthew, is a geek. I say that in a good way. He is a very intellectual kid, very curious around the world around him. He loves to read books and does arts and crafts in his spare time. In short, he would rather be buried deep in a book rather than go outside and play.

That is why Edil has been encouraging him to be involved in sports. There is a basketball tournament opened up for parents at his school and Edil joined so he can show Matthew that the sport can be very easy (Matthew got traumatized I think when he was in first grade and in PE class they were made to shoot some balls. He can’t even shoot until it can reach the ring – he was so embarrassed). Unfortunately, Matthew isn’t really interested in basketball.

So we are trying other fields – swimming, karate / taek wan do or soccer. Soccer is a hit these days among school kids. More and more schools are opening up new classes for it. Do you know there are even portable soccer goals? Soccer Goals are great for practice and great for keeping kids busy when there are picnics or family parties outdoors!

All in the Game.

I am quite excited for October actually. Besides the fact that my Dad and father-in-law celebrate their birthdays this month, it is also the start of parties for the holidays. I have a bunch of online friends who organized a get together-cum-advanced Christmas party for all us. And we are to bring our families too – husband and kids!

We are going to book a hotel room just for that day. We need to  bring a lot of toys for distraction for the kids so us mommies can actually talk and get to know each other and catch up. As for the food, we are going to have everything catered/ordered so it is easier. Maybe I will just bring something sweet because I need it.

How do we distract the husbands? Get them to play poker. Good thing all of our husbands know how to play the game. Poker Tables are available at the room by request. They got their tables from American Gaming Supply. It has the wide selection of poker tables because they are the only company that offers discounts on multiple wholesale purchase online.

IP2Location

I do a lot of work on the web. My son who is seven years old is starting to get curious about the web and have started playing games online – Disney, Nick Jr and lately, a man game called Cabal (with his Dad). Im slowly trying to teach him how to research as well, with his assignments. Like last night, he needed to complete an assignment about keyboard functions so I showed him how to search on Google.

I know I should be careful about him using the PC so it’s good that I heard about IP2Location. It is a database that can be used to translate IP Address to get the information details such as country, specifically state and city. Even the zip code, time zone, ISP, area code and net speed can be determined. Imagine that!

They have a newly launched DB15-DB18 packages which consist of the IDD code, area code, weather station name and weather station code & have a free demo at http://www.ip2location.com/demo.aspx. They have free webmaster tools and can include your blog on it for six months!

This is such a great investment for entrepreneurs online and even just families who are heavy internet users. For someone like me how maintains blogs, this can serve as a site meter of sorts as well.
