Have you read Toni’s Thursday 13 post? She tackles the items she cannot live without in her kitchen. I actually copied it for future reference so when I get to have my own kitchen I can have a smooth transition and have complete utensils. I never thought I will be saying this but Im really learning to love cooking. Well, actually, I love feeding my kids :). As long as they like my cooking, nothing else matters.

Speaking of Christmas decorating and getting into the holiday spirit, I am just putting my foot down that I will not incur ANY debt just because I want to buy gifts for Christmas or decorate the house. I do not want to start the new year in debt. I guess that is where most people make mistakes, right? They are too caught “trying” to get the holiday spirit by purchasing gifts and spending that they even apply for loans to get money. Most banks nowadays offer personal loans to employees with good credit standing. While I don’t negate the fact that personal loans are better than secured loans, I believe applying for one is for extreme emergency cases only - like confinement to the hospital, kid’s tuition fees. I do not consider wedding expenses essential. If you are really strapped for cash and there is no other way, getting a loan is the way to go. But as always, it is better to be prepared for anything - in short, we need to learn how to save.

I plan to put a tree up by December 1. I actually am debating whether to have a tree up or not as it is always a hassle to take it down. Plus, we wont even be spending Christmas at home so why bother. However, in keeping up with Christmas spirit and for the kids (especially Matthew), I will put one up. I actually really like to change colors this year. We have always played with gold and red and this year I want to change colors (But that is an added expense).

I will actually be spending Xmas stuff on Christmas villages. I think this will be a yearly collection for me. Ill get maybe 3-5 houses this year and every year I will add one. It is all about traditions. I really want my kids to have traditions because we had so many when I was a kid.

Do you remember playing with slot machines as a kid? I loved playing with those machines — it was all about chance anyway, and though I was not lucky all the time, the thrill of playing didnt lessen my enthusiasm for it. The best slot games by IGT, Bally, Universal Mills, Jennings, Pace and more are being sold Ace Distributing Slot Machines Sales. They have been in the business since 1975 and have the largest selection of slots in Nevada and California. If I get my own house, Ill make sure it will have its own gameroom and Ill buy a slot machine!

I highly recommend you bookmark this blog. Lots of amazing tips and inspiration. He even has some tips on my chronic illness - procastination. LOL

1. Stop! - Either continue working fully or stop working entirely, nothing in-between. Don’t pull up your e-mail, feed reader or browser to make yourself feel busy. Completely stop for a few seconds, close your eyes and breathe. Even sixty seconds can refocus your mind back where you want it.
2. Know Your Goal - Take a few seconds to visualize what you want to accomplish. See how this outcome connects to bigger goals.
3. Eat Fruit - Give your blood sugar a kick. An apple is healthier than a candy bar and eating it will give you a boost of energy until you rebuild momentum.
4. Define the Stop Time - Are you going to work for another solid 30 minutes? 1 hour? 3? You can’t pace yourself in a run if you don’t know the length. Know how long you need to endure and you can focus your energy to finish up to the last mile.
5. Reward After - Find something you like and promise you will give it to yourself only after you complete another section of work. Don’t muddle this up by rewarding yourself early or avoiding the reward. Early rewards defeat the purpose. Ignored rewards mean you aren’t giving yourself a prize valuable enough to motivate you.
6. Cut Distractions - Unplug the internet, shut the door and hang a “Do Not Disturb” sign. Eliminate all the distracting elements until you only have one focus, your work. Turn off any alerts and warnings your computer might want to give you for the next hour or two.
7. Carve Out the Next Chunk - Don’t commit to an infinite to-do list. Chunk out a section of your project the you want to work on next.
8. Weigh the Benefits - Weigh out the benefits of accomplishing your goal in your mind. Seeing the meaning in your tasks should give you a boost of motivation. If it doesn’t, it’s time to seriously question why you are doing it in the first place.
9. Pump the Tunes - I like to play a little music to get myself engaged. When it is too distracting I cut it off, but it is a good tool for getting yourself focused again. Just make sure its on a playlist so you don’t have to constantly switch tracks.
10. Resist the Urge to Multitask - Focus on one thing, not two or twenty. An hour of deep focus can produce more than a dozen hours of divided focus.
11. Brainstorm - Kill your block by brainstorming ideas. A little mental aerobics will come up with new ideas and engage your mind.
12. Switch Gears - Shift from a logical task to a creative one. Move from a social task to a solitary one. Switch up the activity to use different parts of your brain and rest others while continuing to be productive.
13. Reframe - Change how you perceive the work ahead of you. Are you imagining a crushing mountain of drudgery or a small list of tasks? Is there a light at the end of the tunnel or just a dark abyss? Switch metaphors in your head to keep your emotions in check.
14. The Ten Minute Rule - Commit only to working another ten minutes. This is a great tool for pushing through idea blocks or disruptions in momentum. After the ten minutes are up you can decide if you want to finish, by which time the procrastination will be cured.
15. Take a Real Break - If your procrastination is happening after a long period of work, your body might be telling you something. Slow down and take a real break to move your mind away from work and recover your energy.
16. Hack the Task - Change the task to make it more enjoyable, creative and fun. You could write just another article, or you could write an article where every sub-heading is the title of a song. Mow your lawn in a circular pattern or fold laundry without folding the same type of clothing twice in a row. Task hacking can even give you a better result than you initially started with.
17. Deadline It - Take out a timer, punch in 60:00, outline 60 minutes of work in your to-do list and go! Read this article for more info to maximize your deadline productivity.
18. Random Activity - Make a game out of it. Write the numbers one to six on your to-do list and roll a dice. Then complete whatever it lands on.
19. Burn Those Ships - Cut off any possible mode of retreat from your work. Give your friend a key and lock yourself in a room for an hour. Give her your internet cable until you finish the work.
20. “I’m Procrastinating!” - Say it out loud to yourself. Sometimes the admission is enough to kick you out of a state.

Most small businesses these days make the most common mistake on not investing enough or making a priority to brand their business. It is imperative to know that branding your business is essential to build your network and effectively boost your business. Branding is a new term for steps that have always been absolutely necessary to have a successful business. So this isnt exactly new stuff. This has been around for years, and have been considered highly effective. Nowadays, since the boom of internet and online businesses, entrepreneurs have had the impression that once they launch their site online, they “can be found” already. This isnt entirely true. For one, you need to increase the public’s awareness of your business name. A logo is a must have. Simply, branding is not an inventory you need to do for your business. It is actually building your reputation as a business! If you need more informaton and help, enroll in the Trump University and learn key factors like creating essential elements such as your brand promise and position statement, making your brand stand out in the crowd and safeguarding your business against competition.

Great tips!

1. You aren’t the things you own. The problem is that you view things as possessions in the first place. Ownership is just a societal construct to keep order, it doesn’t have any deeper meaning. Separate your identity from the things you own.

2. Relationships are about doing, not having. You can’t have a girlfriend, boyfriend or spouse. Although those terms are fairly commonplace, they demonstrate that many people still view relationships as possessions. The more you see relationships as possessions, the less intrinsic value you can get from experiencing them.

3. Create a system of goals and challenges. Materialism fills a void. Replace that uncomfortable filler with goals and challenges. Although many of my challenges are directed towards material gain, that isn’t the real point. Just as winning Risk isn’t about world-domination as it is about a fun challenge.

4. Serve. Invest your energies into helping other people. I don’t view acts as being on a continuum from selfishness to selflessness, as acts that directly benefit me can benefit others as well. But even in that case, shifting your focus onto the needs of others can replace materialism.

5. Trash it. I’m the opposite of a packrat. When I need to do a major cleaning, I usually toss just about everything I haven’t used recently. Getting rid of old possessions can be a liberating experience, stripping away from you what isn’t important.

6. See wealth as a challenge not a result. I view earning more money as an interesting and complex game. I expect my minimum comfort threshold would only be around $15,000 to $20,000 per year. Beyond that, earning more is simply a bigger challenge.

7. Experience over objects. The only reason to buy an object is because you believe it will (directly or indirectly) improve the quality of your experience. Going straight to the source helps you avoid the middlemen that are material goods.

8. Build intangible assets. Habits, time-management, discipline, emotional control, understanding and learning are just a few of the non-physical assets you can hold. Building intangible assets replaces your need for physical ones.

9. Use money to free, not chain, yourself. When you have a larger income, don’t simply adapt by increasing your lifestyle. Instead work to create a buffer between your income and lifestyle so you live below your means. This will give you more freedom to pursue goals and ideas that may not immediately contribute to your productivity.

10. Go basic. Simplify all your material possessions so they don’t consume your mental resources. Simple, even if less glamorous, requires less maintenance, offers fewer distractions and uses less thinking. A simple lifestyle affords you the ability to focus your energies on your inner world.

11. Avoid the status game. Seek friends from all social layers. Don’t buy into the game that decides a persons worth based on their money or profession. I know people I would consider smarter and more enlightened who live on a fraction of the income that others do. Keeping pockets of connections within all levels separates you from the competitive aspects materialism brings.

12. Judge yourself by your ethics and your understanding. I’d be far happier with myself if I were poor but I understood the world and lived true to a system of ethics, than if I had the opposite. Don’t base your self worth on how much you’ve achieved or the admiration of your peers.

13. Let go. Buddhism teaches that attachment to things creates suffering. Again, this is all in the mindset. I’m not a Buddhist, but as I understand it, this doesn’t mean the only path to true happiness is to abandon everything. It simply means that you stop trying to hold on to all the things you own and the relationships in your life.

14. You can’t take it with you. What is going to matter to you on your deathbed? Looking back at your entire life, what was important? Use that to prioritize.
