I worked at the call center industry for five years. If not for anything else other than money, the job taught me a lot about discipline and punctuality. Despite what others think of being an agent as an extremely easy job, it really isn’t. One, it requires you to work at odd hours, shifting times. You, in short, work like someone who does hospital work. Not all people can adjust body clocks easily. Two, there are a lot of metrics involved. Bonuses are many but are hard to come by. Three, as we have Americans as bosses and clients, we go live by the American time as well – meaning everyone is expected to come in on time, and get paid their money’s worth by making sure every penny is clocked in. Integrated Time And Attendance in our workplace is state of the art technology. No more bundy machines that involved other friends clocking you in. Your office log/time-in is recorded on the front desk using your eCard or fingertip. That is your time in at work. And how finance computes pay. However, the time you log in the Avaya workstation and PC is your time for actual workload and that is how management/supervisors computes your metrics. For a long time before I resigned, I knew that the IT and Finance Dept were working hand in hand to streamline the process. I hope they got the system provided by TimeClockeShop.com

Getting Sick and Swamped with Work.
Posted on Sep 03, 2009 under 2009 Week at a Glance, Job | No CommentIt seems this month is starting off nicely. Edil’s work situation is improving (though it is still hard with him working in Manila) and I have a lot of work assignments lately. I actually am a little overwhelmed by it all that I do not know where to start. However, I will never complain though as luck is on my side this month – after almost three months of stress, I can finally breathe easier.
I actually twitted this yesterday when I received good news from a friend (Bless her heart):
You know,Im reversing my belief – there is no such thing as luck, there are only blessings. Believe. Have faith.Start September right

However, I woke up today feeling so sick. Change of seasons does that to me. Every morning my nose is so clogged I can hardly breathe and my mouth is so dry my throat hurts. Hellooooo Pollen!
So what have we been doing? We are staying with the grandparents a lot this week because the kids are getting cabin fever being locked up in the house all the time – what can you do? Boredom sucks.
We have been eating out a lot too. We do need to have the vehicle we use checked. We might get flagged down for smoke belching. It also doesn’t run very well – you can hear the engine sounds and I fear it might die on us every minute. So we need to schedule a check-up for its maintenance soon. Sometimes I wish Edil practiced his college degree. He graduated from Mechanical Engineering so he knows more about cars. Air Gauges are one of the things he had a hard time studying for since they lacked actual examples in their lab. Their school needed to buy them overseas by ordering online at PrierTireSupply.biz. They are the leading supplier of air gauges and they have all the sizes they need for actual demonstration.
Wow, can you believe it, we are only a few days away from the –ber months! Before you know it, it’s going to be the holidays again (my most favorite part of the year). Like how the song goes – It’s the most wonderful time of the year – it’s going to be extra special this year because there will be a lot of events starting as early as October and people close to our family will be coming home. I’m sure our days will be packed. I really should plan and think ahead of things needed to be done. I may need a few dresses, white dresses for me and the little girl, white polos for the husband and the big brother, maybe a cocktail dress for a formal party.
I think our weekends from October to December will be booked. I just hope we can make it to all the parties because it’s harder with Edil’s current work schedule. I also have been contemplating to take up an offer from a friend for a part-time job (20 hours a week) that will pay as much as I earned from my previous job. It’s really tempting. I just need to discern what would be best for my kids – and I need a maid!!! Please pray I find someone soon. Even if I stay at home, I need someone to help me watch over the kids. I can’t even go to the grocery without taking the kids with me – without Edil at home, it is harder.
Update on G. Finding a New PC.
Posted on Jul 15, 2009 under Geek Speak, Job, Random Schtuff, Shopping | No CommentIt has been three weeks since G, my laptop, got sick and needed to be sent to the repair center. She wasn’t turning on (no display) even if the lights were blinking. An initial diagnosis made by the technician was motherboard failure. We were already told it will take 3 to 4 weeks for it to be repaired and the cost, if the diagnosis is correct, will be anywhere from $200-$300. (Yes, I might as well get a new one, right?) I don’t want to give up on my laptop because of sentimental reasons. It is the first laptop I have bought with my money from writing and she was really with me (literally) when I was working so hard. But I do realize I need a desktop computer, given how long I work in front of a computer. There are great deals right now, I just wish we had a credit card to buy one. There are great deals on packages with 0% interest for 12 months. I can always apply online for best credit cards – but I really don’t want one anymore.
You need to find a credit card that works best for you. For example, if you do groceries a lot and charge it to your card, you can get one that has bonus points for shopping. Or if you use it for gas, you can sign up for a card that offers rebates or discounts on petroleum. If you have multiple cards and want to consolidate them into one, you can get a card that has a zero balance transfer rate so it will be easier to pay and monitor your expenses.
I’m going to think about this until the end of the month and make my decision. I need to have at least 30% of the total payment as well.
I have been getting lesser hours of sleep each night. Add to the fact that we have been without internet since Thursday! Thursday people – last week! It hasn’t been that bad since we get to bum with the internet connection at my Dad’s place. Still, I need to get the best eye cream available for the dark circle and puffy eyes because of long work hours.
I am not complaining though. We all need all the work we can get these days – I’m still grateful to be able to stay home and earn decently while taking care of the kids.
So that is the reason why updates have been scarce around here people. I promise to make up to you guys with a great post about the kids
As you all know, I’m currently jobless. I don’t have a job, if you don’t count keeping house and taking care of kids count. I have a little sideline which I take seriously, because that sideline is the one that is responsible for putting food in our table. Sometimes, I get burned out and want to take a leave from it or even abandon all of it altogether but I always do a reality check: Do I want to leave my kids with a maid again? Would there be a better alternative? Can we afford for me to quit? All those questions make me work again, even half-heartedly. An example of which is me, blogging at 4AM because I need to work.
Out of us four siblings, our youngest, is the only who has a job. Surprise surprise! We really dont expect her to hold a 9 to 5 job because she is as eclectic (and not really a morning person) as can be. So I wasnt surprised to learn that she got a job as a fashion stylist for photoshoots for ads. A Marketing Company employed her for it and she is still free-lance so it is still good for her.
My brother quit his nth job and my other sister’s company went belly-up. I’m pretty sure they will find jobs again soon I just don’t know if they will take the break until after the holidays.
I just got in touch with most of my high school friends through an e-group we share. I was surprised to learn that most of them are out of the country already! One is in UK as a nurse, two others in the US with jobs in IT and almost five are in Singapore doing various professional jobs. Most of them are in the IT department too!
Is it really the “in” job these days? Anything to do with computers? Some say the most classic job of all is teaching and caring. Because there are always children to teach and sick people to take care of – however, one cannot argue with the fact that a career that involves computers these days have more possibilities for growth and career advancement. Not to mention the big bucks they earn per month which is sometimes thrice the pay of a health care professional already. There are even new york it services which compensate more.
At the risk of sounding bitter, which job is actually harder? Which job actually has lives at stake? And yet, they are most overworked and underpaid “professionals” in the industry.
Yes, I think I am being bitter here. I just need to let it all out.
I recently got word that my previous company might be offering a car/mobile package for Level Four employees (Managers). It’s about time really. I feel that employees who are actually classified as mobile (covers many areas, reports to different offices, does ocular inspections) need to have a car as an employee benefit –not just a reimbursement of transportation expenses.
I know there is a financial crisis these days but it should not stop companies from giving the best benefits it can give its employees. Vehicle Reimbursement can be done so they can actually map out a plan for car benefits. Corporate Reimbursement Services, Inc. (CRS) is a management consulting firm that administers highly flexible and customizable vehicle reimbursement programs for companies with mobile employees.
I hope that Edil gets his car from his company by early next year the latest. He deserves it, he has been meeting his sales quota every month and his year-to-date sales are within reach (reach: incentive reach). Plus, he cannot afford to be relocated without a car. And I want him relocated here SOON.
