Part of my to-do list this month is to renew my PRC licenses. I wasn’t eager to renew them as I haven’t been employed as a nurse or as a medical technologist ever since but things have slightly changed. I want to train and get certified on very basic continuing education courses like IV Therapy, Nursing Documentation and Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy but I need to have an active license. It was a good thing that they do not require you to have job experience otherwise I would not be qualified too.

Healthcare jobs in the country are not spectacular unlike in other countries where health professionals are well-compensated for. But in the past months this year, this calling to actually practice what I have labored for for almost 8 years has been intensifying. I do not know if this is because I feel bored with my current job (unchallenged I think is the better term) or if this is a result of having the kids grow older and be more independent that I have more time for me now – but I know sooner or later I should try and practice. If anything else, this should not be a back-up plan for my family. It should be the major plan.

I have been out of the workforce since 2008 and I have apprehensions if I can actually last a job outside the house. Or if I will actually like it. But I remember this saying “Success lies just outside your comfort zone”. Back in 2007, my comfort zone was working an 8-5 job and living in the city. It was downright terrifying to move out from it – quitting work without any guarantee of compensation in my then-work-from-home-stint. Add to that moving to another area where I am not familiar with. Taking care of the kids myself when my whole life I am used having to having a maid. But look at me (us) now. We are more than okay. We survived. And thrived. I thrived. Who would’ve thought I can wing it? I did. And maybe, just maybe, my comfort zone is THIS. And the time has come for me to find another success cum happiness.

I will be praying for it!

I read an article the other day about how fewer nurses are going to the US to practice their profession. Most now go to other countries, specifically the UK and Canada, as there are fewer restrictions and higher salaries. In our country, I know the government has issued a news bulletin saying that there is an abundance of graduates of the nursing course but fewer licensed nurses. Something needs to be done with nursing schools, obviously. Most of those who are on their second course prefer to take an online nursing degree instead of enrolling in an actual school. While those who are employed and are licensed already take an online nursing degree that will give them masteral units.

Getting into the acting is not an easy thing especially since there are a lot of people who are trying their luck in the field of acting too. A typical aspiring actor or actress will have to go to several casting calls and acting auditions before hopefully landing the role that will jumpstart his or her career.

Nowadays, there are websites that provide a venue for both casting directors and those who are looking for acting jobs to come together and make free casting calls easier for everyone. Casting directors will benefit from posting their casting call schedule online to make sure that it draws a lot of potential stars. A casting director never knows who will be the next big superstar and he or she just might be the one to discover this future superstar.

An example of this site is TalentJug.com. It allows and encourages aspiring actors and actresses to post their profile for casting directors to look at. This will help directors limit the wannabes in their acting auditions by inviting only those whose profiles interest them.

You just need to sign up, create your own TalentJUG URL, upload some photos and videos and fill up your talent types. Casting directors can now browse your portfolio – that easy!

Aspiring actors and actresses will likewise benefit by having their profiles easily accessible to numerous casting directors, increasing their chances of landing an important role. It will also be easier for them to simply browse through numerous casting call postings from anywhere for as long as they have internet. They could easily choose to try their luck at different auditions whenever they are available.
Do not go to a casting call unprepared. Below are some tips to help you not just in casting calls but in your acting career.

· Be a team player. People hate working with prima donnas so it is a good idea to know how to get along with different people. In this business, you will be encountering and working with a lot of people so you need to be a team player. It is not just about you, it is about the project that you are all working on.
· Be proactive. Again, aside from the accidental discoveries, no one becomes a big star without being proactive. Projects will not come to you until you are successful already so for the mean time, you will have to go and get them.
· Be professional. Professionalism is a valued characteristic not just in the acting industry but everywhere else. You could ruin all your chances by becoming unprofessional in your workplace. So make sure you are always on time and always prepared when you get to your workplace.
· Be prepared. You do not accept a role without studying first what the role is all about. So you do not attend a casting call without an idea what role you are auditioning for. Prepare by finding out as much as you can about the role and put yourself into character.
· Be efficient. Efficiency is a characteristic that will save you and other people a lot of time. Show this by limiting your mail-in package to a head shot, a cover letter, and a resume. Bring several copies just in case you need more.

Finding the perfect actor or actress to play a part can be equally difficult both for casting directors and those looking for acting jobs. Having an online portal that can facilitate everything described above will definitely make things easier for them. Nowadays, there are even some auditions that are done online by asking those who would like to audition to send in their audition videos. Now, who said that casting calls cannot be this easy?

Try signing up for TalentJUG.com – your dreams are never as close as they are now today because of it!

Sometimes, I stop and think how much I love technology. I have never been a fashionista and have never swooned over bags, clothes and shoes. But I swoon and get clammy hands whenever I see a new gadget come out.

It helps that I personally have benefited from the advancement of technology. I am able to work at my own pace, at the comfort of my own home and have a kind boss who lives right across the world in a different timezone. I have a very good friend who I talk to, e-mail with and chat with on a daily basis (sometimes even longer than my husband which is sad if you think of it) – and she is in Boston. Conference calls with other friends just got cheaper because of VoiP calling. The other day, a friend and I talked for over 45 minutes to discuss some things and neither one of us paid for long-distance charges.

Audio conferencing has saved many offshore and outsourcing companies millions of dollars because of its cheap expenses. You need to invest on the technology, of course, but after that, you just to do conferences, webinars if you have video conferencing, and call even every hour without incurring such high long distance fees. Audio conference meetings are the usual meeting being held in offices today, with executives minimizing flying out of town or the country to check on their businesses!

With the current economy, most families can no longer live on a single income, usually shouldered by the father. That is why so many mothers work these days – the standard of living has increased but unfortunately, everyone’s salaries haven’t. It is fortunate though that there are now more opportunities for moms to stay at home and still be able to earn to support their families. Work From Home with the home based business network marketing offered by 4Life Research. You might have negative notions when it comes to networking, thinking of pyramid scams and that only the top level entries get paid the most. But this is a legal business and the most effective way of marketing – you only market the product once, and if done effectively, your work will ripple until the bottom line and you still get the rewards and earn from it.

4Life Research has always been a pioneer in bringing to market products that do exactly what they claim to be able to do. Because the industry is so large, the market for Transfer Factor is absolutely huge. 4Life Research Transfer Factor is a product that really has few equals.

I have been blessed to be given an opportunity to take care of the kids and help with the payables each month. I hope it continues!
