Moving Houses

I posted a trivia quiz over at Facebook once asking how many houses have I lived in all my life – I think nobody got it right! So here it is – trivia: I lived in a total of eight houses since I was born, and I experienced first hand moving houses, relocating and settling in new areas seven times! It’s a good thing though I only had to transfer schools twice. As with moving places, most of my “important” stuff got lost in transition. But to an eight year old girl, important stuff means the bracelet a friend gave, diaries and letters from classmates. It’s a good thing I had been quite anal ever since I personally transferred pictures to our new houses by myself.

A Moving Company could have done us good. Not that we had much to move over but my Mom is such a pack rat. You would not believe until now how many clothes and stuff we still have over at the old house. To think we give away or sell clothes at least three times a year – and my mom gives away three boxes at once at a time. A moving company may cost a little but for its worth it would have saved all of us from so much stress.

Channeling Martha Stewart

I have been browsing storage solution spaces and interior decorating web sites for weeks now, in the hopes that it will help me decide the fate of our two small rooms in the house. I have decided to use one room for the kids’ study and play room. Basically everything from their books to their toys will be there. I’d just use a folding sofa bed if ever Matthew decides to grow up and tries to sleep alone ;) . So far, I have a visual on my head on how it will look like, I just don’t know what to buy first. What do we need more? It’s hard when you need to make do with limited money! But I have faith that we will slowly but surely complete everything we need for the house.

As early as now, Matthew has been asking me when will we be putting up a Christmas tree and start decorating for Christmas. I would really like to buy a new tree. I have always been partial to the traditional tree colors – green and red with gold with white lights. We have a little Nativity scene that is always at the foot of the tree.  Decorative Throw Pillows will be an accent for the couch I think.

Staying at home while keeping a job isn’t as easy as it seems. I get to save on money with transportation but time management is something I am struggling with, especially since we don’t have a maid. There really isn’t enough time for me to be able to work, take care of a kid who stays at home all day, cook, and even rest. That’s why I would not even blink an eye if ever a residential cleaning service would charge that much. A clean home without me involved with the cleaning is worth it!

Merry Maids is a professional cleaning company long established since 1979. Their corporate office is located in Memphis, Tennessee and is the largest home cleaning franchise network in the world!

Have you watched the movie Sunshine Cleaning? A single mother who needs to enroll his son in a special school works overtime as a cleaning lady and then branches out to cleaning crime scenes – and succeeds! Watch it! It really is enlightening.

Moving Around.

Growing up, we moved around as a family a total of six times. When I got married, we moved twice in a year. That makes my experience at moving house total eight times. I’ve always wanted to have a house of my own, where I will let my children grow their roots so to speak. I hope their roots will be where we are staying at because I would love for them to grow up simple and God-fearing kids.

I don’t know when our dreams of having our own home will materialize but I certainly have more experience and hopefully, more wisdom with regards to moving places. That means packing and unpacking boxes and boxes of things. One of the biggest lessons I’ve got from moving around a lot is that clutter goes with you if you don’t throw or give stuff away. Keep only the essentials. AND before anything else, unpack within the week of moving in or else those things will stay in their boxes up until the next move.

One of the things I am frustrated though is there are no reputable moving companies here unlike the famous Boston Moving Company Humboldt Services. From packing your boxes, insuring everything gets to the new place safely and unloading your things, they got it covered!

My Twitter. Bebot and MBAP friends once talked about owning a home. It seems we are at that stage where we want to have a house we can really call our own. I got so many tips on where to get loans, how to maximize the Pag-IBIG housing benefits, the current pricing of lots, whether it is better to buy a pre-made house or start from scratch, and whether a house, a townhouse unit or condo unit is better. It all boils down to preferences really. I once saw a  manufactured home in one of the movies I watched and it was really nice. It is a house that is built in a factory and then transported to the place where it should be. It is kinda cool really.

As for us, we would love to have a house with wide open space. Having lived in the suburbs made me realize how much free open spaces for the kids to run in is so good for my kids. I also realized how cheap lots are selling in our area too, makes me wish we can buy and invest on a lot right away!

Most of my friends these days are so bent on saving enough money so they can get their own house by next year. I guess we are all at that stage where we want tangible proof of our accomplishments and something we can really call our own. I realized that things like this should have been thought of and planned for at the very start – even when one was still single. At my rate, I would extremely be lucky if I can get my own own house by the time I hit 35.

Everytime we go to Tagaytay, we pass by a highway where most big and beautiful houses are located. I would love to invest on a property there. It’s a good thing me and the husband have the same taste with regards to home design – the only hurdle is saving and coming up with enough money to make it materialize.

We were discussing condo units, townhouse units, down payments, prime lots and everything related to owning a house over at Twitter last night. Though a condominium unit in a prime location would be a very good investment, I doubt I would like to live in there. I’d still want a big lot where my kids can play and where I can enjoy my cup of coffee in the morning, surfing online with the chirping of birds on trees as my music.

House Project

We, well I actually, have this project to complete by the end of the year – and that is to finally complete everything for the house. We have been on our own for almost a year now yet we still need to buy a lot of furniture like shelves and even beds to complete our house. One thing leads to another and the money allocated for them seems to mysteriously disappear all the time :)

I also do not know the saying “Big things come from small things.” Whenever I want something, I want it big time – no installment on small pieces. Take for example, my son’s bedroom, we have had a plan for it for the longest time already but we haven’t started anything. I want a bed, shelf and customized study table for him but since I don’t want to buy one thing at a time, it has never materialized.

Except for the boy’s bedroom, I want to add some little pieces here and there. And I really want to organize our kitchen and bathroom.

Small things become bigger things.

Big things come from small things.

Somehow I need to keep that in mind.

Start small.

Remember.

In Search of a Daybed.

It seems summer has not been going well for us lately. The weather has been horrible to my kids (and me) making us sick. We cannot go out because 1) it is raining and 2) we are sick. Add to the misery is that one by one, most of our furniture and appliances are disintegrating ;) Our TV rack got busted, we need to get new beds (with mattresses). I toasted our rice cooker and just today, our washing machine stopped working (right in the middle of doing laundry).

I am quite hung up on getting us a new bed before May starts. It really affects all of us since we co-sleep and I’d like to establish a good pattern for all of us since we are just a month away before school starts and I will have two kids going to school already.

This Modern Rega daybed would be so nice if we had a big and covered lanai, don’t you think so?

I actually saw something like from a blog that featured a similar bed designed by Kenneth Cobonpue which left Brad Pitt in awe he ordered one for their bed and one crib for Shiloh. At $6,500.00USD over at OpulentItems.com, no wonder it is considered as such.

But wow, wouldn’t you want to lie in this kind of bed too?
