We recently bought a new TV for the house, and it can support HDMI cables already. My husband wanted a television that can support HDMI cables and can have HDTV – I just wanted a new TV. He explained how buying a more “hi-tech” TV can benefit our family. We are a family that loves to watch movies at home. We download movies on the web and watch them on our TV set. It’s a problem when the movie file we downloaded cannot be read by our DVD player. With HDMI cables, we can connect our laptop to our TV, play the movie on the laptop, with the output seen on our TV. Isn’t that amazing? I also work on Photoshop often. And I need a bigger screen. Enter HDMI cables! I work on our large-screen TV when I need a bigger workspace (screen) to work with in Photoshop!
For a non-techie like me, this is huge and amazing news. A company like Optimized Cable Company offers cables that enhance user experience for all kinds of gadgets, like how a VGA cable made doing presentations on theaters using projector monitors easier. They are responsible for the transmission of video signals from personal computers or laptops to monitors or projectors. And how
cat-5 cables are essential for building networks in offices.
It is amazing how far our world has become with technology!

We currently only have one way to connect to the internet where I work, through my laptop. Our desktop computer is still not repaired, almost six months after its motherboard died on us. So I am hanging on to our laptop for dear life. I pray that it won’t give me such a hard time even if I work it to the ground everyday. I remember back in December it’s DVD drive wouldn’t work, and I had to take it in for repair. It turns out my laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1525, had a bad virus and that the only way we can remove it is to have everything reformatted. The virus removal service cost a lot more than I thought it would, and at the beginning the company would only give me an estimate of what it would cost. There is a Portland computer repair company called pcmdinc that is upfront about all of their pricing costs. They provide virus removal and everything required with that for a fee of $149. For that fee they come to your house to do the virus repair. There is no charge for the house call unless you live outside their regular service area. They service the Portland Oregon metropolitan area and go as far north as Vancouver Washington. They will also provide virus removal by remote service where they take control of your computer over the internet and make all of the required fixes. This remote service costs less at $129. This company provides onsite and remote options for hourly repairs as well. This Portland pc repair services (PCMD, Inc) company also promises No Geek speak, which means they will explain things in a way that you understand and are available to answer your questions or schedule repairs 7 days a week from 8 AM to 7 PM. This Portland computer support company was founded in 2007 to provide "prompt, polite, and thorough service."

It has been three weeks since G, my laptop, got sick and needed to be sent to the repair center. She wasn’t turning on (no display) even if the lights were blinking. An initial diagnosis made by the technician was motherboard failure. We were already told it will take 3 to 4 weeks for it to be repaired and the cost, if the diagnosis is correct, will be anywhere from $200-$300. (Yes, I might as well get a new one, right?) I don’t want to give up on my laptop because of sentimental reasons. It is the first laptop I have bought with my money from writing and she was really with me (literally) when I was working so hard. But I do realize I need a desktop computer, given how long I work in front of a computer. There are great deals right now, I just wish we had a credit card to buy one. There are great deals on packages with 0% interest for 12 months. I can always apply online for best credit cards – but I really don’t want one anymore.
You need to find a credit card that works best for you. For example, if you do groceries a lot and charge it to your card, you can get one that has bonus points for shopping. Or if you use it for gas, you can sign up for a card that offers rebates or discounts on petroleum. If you have multiple cards and want to consolidate them into one, you can get a card that has a zero balance transfer rate so it will be easier to pay and monitor your expenses.
I’m going to think about this until the end of the month and make my decision. I need to have at least 30% of the total payment as well.

I don’t consider myself a techie person (or even a geek). I consider myself as someone who just wants gadgets to make things easier for me
. Ever since I started scrapbooking I got more aware of gadgets that would make things easier for me to capture (like the dSLR camera), to create (like a fast and built computer) and design (a Wacom tablet). It also involved hundreds of gigabytes of files and pictures and everything else.
For the five years I have spent as technical support in a registrar and web hosting company, I never was interested to learn more than what is just required for me to learn to be able to support customers who call in. I know how to set up a blog, troubleshoot databases and report MySQL problems but all these are limited to what are the application inside the web hosting company I work for. So when I resigned from work and lost free access and privileges to web hosting accounts, consider my lost and didn’t know what to do. A Managed File Transfer solution has been discussed before I leave and it can transfer EDI, XML, financial data and other sensitive business information. That will be too complicated for me to talk about but that is the last techie thing I have learned ever since.

My Dad now has another hobby – downloading music and movies from the web. My husband told him about the site where he can download music and from there he was hooked. He even thought about upgrading his subscription (as you know, his music ranges from the 50s to the 70s so selection for a free account will be limited) and now wants to have an external hard disk for his music files (There are plenty!). Now, he discovered movies and he is more hooked.
He now wants to upgrade his laptop. It’s an old Toshiba model but has served him well because it has been around for years (It was a hand me down from a relative in fact). He wants to upgrade the memory most of all so he can run applications. I told him it will be better if he buys a new one in the US (or asks for a hand me down again
). Edil explained to him some of the features he needed to consider in buying a laptop. He referred him to a laptop buying guide.
So he decided he wants big hard disk space, enough memory and a good video card (because he would really want to watch movies a lot). A speaker will be a great accessory. I told him we can go with a Dell laptop anytime – my cousin is also a fan of Dell laptops. He has been through a lot of top pc laptop brands – HP, Toshiba, Acer – but only Dell satisfied him (and he uses the laptop for his online business!).
Of course, my sister who is into design and graphic arts would be voting for a MAC. On the graphic design side, wherein there will be a choice between pc vs mac laptops, the MAC wins. Id love to go into the dark side too, but for now, Im still in love with G, my Dell Inspiron 1525

Everything is so technology-powered and driven these days. Most businesses and enterprises have an IT Department to help keep their operations going. Security is always an important issue and hacking a very serious threat. There is always a need for a password vault to important files and documents.
