Repaired. Renewed. Registered.

I am talking about our car here. June is the month where car registrations are renewed every year, and this is also when it is scheduled for an oil change and a semi-annual car check-up. It was a bit expensive for us, as June is also the month where the kids go to school and in this school year, we have two kids now going to school. So it was a bit overwhelming for us but thankfully we were able to pull everything through without so much of a hitch. I need to thank my lucky stars and the Big Man Up There for the steady stream of work these days.

Anyway, when the car’s registration was renewed we were told that we would need to have the car checked and inspected next year, which would mean that its registration would double as the vehicle has a new machine. At least we don’t need a new car plate. I have always been curious how DVLA Number Plates are formed. Here, we have three letters and three numbers. The DVLA (Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency) in the UK has a new style of number plate introduced in September 2001. The arrangement of the now is 2 letters, then 2 digits, then 3 more letters. The most desirable of these new plate designs form the names of boys or girls names or the type of employment the buyer is in. Just remember when designing your  plate the letters, I, Q, Z, cannot be used in the formation of your plate design and you cannot apply a number plate to a vehicle if it makes the vehicle appear newer than it is.

Third Baby Check-up

And no, I am not talking about me being pregnant. I am talking about our car who needed to have its registration renewed, tires replaced and everything else. Basically, it was like sending a third child to school. It was due for an oil change, its braking system needs to be checked and repaired, tires replaced and the roofing replaced. We were hoping we can get new car floor mats but I guess that won’t be happening. Everything is just too expensive. We are hoping we can get a replacement by the end of the year so my dream of taking the kids to Disneyland HK will have to take a raincheck until that happens.

Truck Engines

I am quite getting frustrated with the way things are going with our car. It really is due for maintenance this month – oil change, some fixes on the braking system, etc. We replaced its tires because they have become worn down already last weekend. It was a bit draining to the pocket but we needed to do it because it would be dangerous to travel with thin tires (if you have heard of the accident along the Skyway involving kids, you will know that one of its tires blew up that caused the tragic accident). We thought everything was fine when we saw that one of its tires was flat right before we were about to go to Mass. It took every ounce of patience and control not blow our top over one flat tire.

In the end we commuted to go to Mass (even if it was so hot outside) and treated the kids to McDonald’s afterwards (where we got the Shrek Happy Meal toys – it’s Martha’s favorites). Of course, we still cannot take the car’s problems off our minds – we are going to do some errands this week, such as buying supplies and stuff for school for the kids and considering we live in the mountains we need the car to travel. So Edil needs to have it fixed before we go out, which would potentially set us back a day! Truck Engines don’t give this kind of problem, do they? Maybe we should have a truck as our next vehicle! :)

Pocket-Draining Months

May and June are proving to be the most expensive months of the year for us. Sometimes, I think why did I ever plan to get married in June – with all the expenses we have during these times, celebrating our anniversary (which happens towards the end of June) always seem to be bypassed due to 1) too many things to prioritize and 2) drained savings.

This month we celebrated the princess’ birthday, Mother’s Day AND took care of the kids’ enrollment. This is the first school year wherein we will have two kids to send to school and while the price is staggering (but really reasonable compared to other schools), we are glad we prepared for it since January.

What would be draining our pocket the rest of the month and next is the much-needed maintenance for our vehicle. It needs an oil change, the braking system needs to be fixed, the roofing replaced and the tires need to be replaced. Its registration is due up for renewal next month too. Car Registrations are important because it enables owners of vehicles to be identified. The Introduction of The Motor Car Act made it compulsory for all motorized vehicles to be registered with a Car Registration. We are going to be fined if we renew it late.

MBA 624

That would be our car’s number plate when we have our own vehicle. I would like to use the word “when” and not “if” because we would like to believe that it’s going to happen someday – our goal is by the end of this year or early next year.

Why the plate number? The three letters are the initials of our kids, and the three number signify our wedding date. The husband was the one who thought of the combination, as he is all about making our dream be a realization the soonest possible time.

Personalised Number Plates cost more than the regular assigned car plates though. Since it’s not really a hot combination like HOT 999 or BIG 888, we are hoping it’s not going to be as expensive.

Personalised car plate registration numbers are becoming increasingly popular. An increase in demand has increased prices up significantly over the past decade or years.

One thing we should also consider is that license plates are not transferrable from vehicle to vehicle, it comes with (another) added cost. So maybe when we get our *dream* car (an SUV) we can finally indulge ourselves on MBA 624! Dreams come true – you got to believe it! :)
