Remember my post here? Well, today is Blog Action Day, and we are supposed to flood the internet with blog posts about the environment, how important it is, and what we CAN do to save what is left of it!
I have chose to highlight the organization Eco-Libris.
About 20 Million trees are cut down annually for virgin paper used for the production of books sold in the U.S. alone. What we want to do is to raise awareness to the destructive environmental impacts of using paper for the production of books and provide people with an affordable and easy way to do something about it. We have partnered with three highly respected US and UK registered non-profit organizations that work in collaboration with local communities in developing countries to plant the trees.
You can read facts about the book publishing industry here. How do we take acton? You can take action by making a difference: Plant a tree for every book you read. You can also donate $5 for a tree to be planted in your name. You will also learn more how Eco-Libris does it one tiny step at a time.
I have donated. And I hope for every book you read, you will remember the tree where it came from and be conscious enough to give back.
