I’ve been working 12 hours a day since Tuesday and I mean I’ve been either typing, looking up sites for information or dabbling in Photoshop. I haven’t even had time to go and visit Facebook :) . I would like to think it’s a new work ethic of mine but really, it’s just too much work deadlines that I need to meet before the weekend.

Yesterday I had to force myself to rest for a few hours as my the space between my thumb and forefinger begin to ache. I know the signs, so I told myself I need to take a break, or else all the money I will earn will just go to therapy. Of course, we are not talking about Mesothelioma treatment here but carpal tunnel syndrome is a serious ailment and I’d like to have my hands as strong as ever until the day I die, thank you very much.

Here are some exercises I strongly recommend for people who use their hands in work do everyday, even three times a day if you work for long periods of time:

Here are some exercises intended to help prevent carpal tunnel syndrome. Remember doing a quick five minute exercise warm-up before starting work, just as runners stretch before a run, can help prevent work-related injuries.

Extend and stretch both wrists and fingers acutely as if they are in a hand-stand position. Hold for a count of 5.

Straighten both wrists and relax fingers.

Make a tight fist with both hands.

Then bend both wrists down while keeping the fist. Hold for a count of 5.

Straighten both wrists and relax fingers, for a count of 5.

The exercise should be repeated 10 times.
Then let your arms hang loosely at the side and shake them for a few seconds.
