We celebrated June 3rd, our fifth civil wedding anniversary, with a greet-and-peck-on-the cheeks. I prefer to celebrate our Church wedding anniversary because it is ultimately OUR covenant to each other.

While most couples I know still celebrate their monthsary, BF-GF anniversary, and all the other –saries out there, I prefer to celebrate the only three dates that matter, anyways.

August 10 – the date that changed my life forever. (I said Yes to Edil, 13 yrs ago)

January 20 – while it holds no bearing for Edil, it is my anniversary for ME, because it has proved that the Big Man is always quick to answer my prayers, no matter how much I ask for – I am just too hard-headed to see. After 11 months of trying to hold it in, I went to church, ask for a confessor (it was 3PM) and cried. Sought advice. And there, I really felt peace – as if it was really the Father talking to me – and you know what, believe it or not, when I came home, Edil was at our house, after 11 months! (grabe no?). And three days after, we are back together, planning to get married. Sabi nga ni Edil nun, “Wala ng urungan to ha, uupakan kita!” Hahahaha :)

June 24 – While everything else stands out, the wedding, the details, Edil whispering his vows to me after the wedding will forever be the highlight of my dream wedding come true. Really. I may mentally divorce him a hundred times, but my heart is with him, forever.

And while I sometimes can’t help but feel inggit when other couples are more romantic than us, I just try and remember this quote:

“Don’t over-analyze your marriage; it’s like yanking up a fragile indoor plant every 20 minutes to see how the roots are growing. "
