So our cleaning lady left last Friday. She will be coming home to their province for the vacation and she told me she would not be back until June. As much as I tolerate her misgivings, I have to admit her cooking and her doing the laundry and cleaning everyday helps a lot. At least during mornings, I can concentrate on work and just tend to Martha when she wakes up.
Now, the first thing I do when I wake up is to make sure I cook rice and start cooking for breakfast/lunch. As much as possible, I try to make sure we keep the place as clean as the maid left it so it is easy to maintain. It is a good thing that the kids are on vacation (and the husband too) so I have help. Matthew cleans up the bed, sweeps the floor and even mops afterwards. Martha cleans up after her own mess. Edil does the laundry (He knows I hate doing it). So I am left to the kitchen and making sure the kids smell good
.
It is hard. From the defrosting of the ref, defrosting the meat/chicken, paring vegetables and the never ending dishwashing, I take care of it. It doesn’t help that my kids love to have snacks which require cooking – hotdogs, noodles, pancit canton – the list goes on. I think I spend 5 hours a day in our kitchen – no kidding!! No amount of lotion can actually help my poor hands.
However, I am listing all the kitchen utensils we so need. I wonder how our maid survived with our utensils, really. I need to buy them one by one so it isn’t too heavy on the pocket. I looked at our wedding gifts (still in boxes) and there are only a few for the kitchen. There is this beautiful Butterfly teacup set that was a gift from our wedding guests that I plan to put on display.
It looks a lot like this:
