I thought I was going to die. And yes, Im not trying to be dramatic here.
You have to understand I HATE going to the hospital and getting hospitalized and I have a background in diagnosing myself (hahahaha) so I pretty much take it easy (and cool) when I get sick.
Not until two weeks ago.
After stuffing ourselves over at Dampa with the MBAP Mommies, we went home where I cooked hotdogs for the kids. I told myself Ill sleep for awhile and when I woke up, I wasnt really feeling well already.
I crashed at 8PM to wake up at 10PM with chills. It got so bad I had to call Edil and Mato (who were playing Cabal) to warm me up because I couldnt stop shaking. By 12MN I had a fever and the worst headache ever. Too bad we dont keep adult medicines in the house and there is no open sari sari store by 9PM here where we live. Edil seriously considered making me finish a whole bottle of Calpol because my fever was really high.
Edil slept at 3AM where I proceeded to wish I wouldnt die with the way my kidneys were hurting (backside) – I knew it was a very nasty case of UTI (mine is recurring). I was also puking and it was my first time to experience the room really shaking – ganun pala talaga umikot ang mundo. I was puking all over the house LOL.
By morning I had to call my Dad because I still felt awful – and knowing myself, normally my fever will be down in 12 hours even if I dont take meds. They went to the house wherein my Dad diagnosed me with a very bad case of UTI. By evening, since Matthew had to go to school, I crashed over at their place so I can have tender loving care from the parents (and some help with the kids) — hehehe.
From there, it really went to bad to worst. I didnt have any appetite – which really speaks how very bad my sickness was. I NEVER LOSE MY APPETITE. EVER. Hehehehe. A sure sign which made my Dad worried because he cant even make me drink Coke OR make me get up to eat ice cream, even if he offered a gazillion sweet things (Of course, Im now jumping all over food much to my mom’s dismay — sayang daw ang 15lbs! Hehehehe).
So by day 3, my fever was still very high and my Mom was really getting worried that it might be dengue. Napahilot na ako at lahat (thrice ata), ang taas pa din ng lagnat ko. So my Mom prayed and she got the inspiration to have my blood checked (Maganda tong dialogue na to eh kaso di nyo maiintindihan, inside joke na lang sa family hahahaha).
Thursday was the worst, I really thought my kidneys were damaged. My kidneys were throbbing, my head was really really aching with the worst headache ever and I was aching all over. My dad took me to this oh-my-gawd-nakakatakot na hospital which yielded normal platelet counts. But I wasnt taking anthing and keeping anything in so I told my Dad iconfine na nya ako. (Kasi natatakot na din ako).
I got confined at the Heart Center where I really need to say: THEY HAVE THE BEST NURSES. This is from a fellow nurse who knows protocol. Grabe, they are really quality nurses – they are even IV Certified Nurses! Kabilib. If I will practice I will make sure to get experience from the Heart Center. Promise.
So anyway, they took my blood where my platelet was 56 na pala. The family doctor, a very honest man called Dr. Ho, told me it was dengue.
And we had a dialogue that went:
“Wala po akong gana kumain.”
“I dont expect you to eat because you are sick. Ok lang yan. Papayat ka.”
Grabe sa honest no? LOL. But yes, I did lose 15lbs. (No joke yan — I checked earlier and it still is off my waist – di ko alam kung anong nangyari ang lakas ko na kumain – recuperating pa rin siguro?! Hehehehe).
At the hospital, I was treated to the best low-fat low salt food I have ever tasted. LOL.
A sign I was getting better? I asked my Dad to buy me Coffee Crunch Red Ribbon Cake. My Dad was happy to oblige me ![]()
Edil tolerated my never ending requests for giving me scratches (I had pantals na para akong nahazing).
So there.
Part 1 of my tale being sick because of a pesky mosquito.

“I dont expect you to eat because you are sick. Ok lang yan. Papayat ka.”
BWAHAHAHAHA.
We’re so glad you’re back Aggie. Hindi nagsuffer ang Alexa mo kahit di ka nagbablog LOL.
Dzois last blog post..Weekend Round Up (where we shopped til we dropped and where Sandy became a ballerina)
hay, nai-imagine ko kung gaano kahirap pinagdaanan mo. i had dengue when i was in college (paano naman, probinsya ang school ko!), and i remember i was too scared din nun. di naman umabot sa 50 ang platelets ko. i think 92 lang.
good to have you back & so pleased to hear that both you & Martha are well.
glad you’re fine now aggie. grabe, feel na feel o ang story mo promise. when you weren’t online for days, i knew something was terribly wrong na….
ayan, palakas ka na ha and so many excuses to eat hahahaha
