I’m Matthew’s Mom.

Seriously. I introduce myself that way these days, especially to those people who know my son. Not the other way around (He is Aggie’s son). I’m Matthew’s Mom.

My son, who goes home everyday to an empty house, is alone to fend for himself for three hours before either of his parents go home, who sometimes sets the dinner table by himself, who would rather play Yugi-Oh (yes, Pokemon is history), is top 1 in his class.

And he finished first grade with an award.
And I wont even mention it because Im going to be such a great stage mother. But who cares.

My son is a genius. Really.
He is a looker, a nerd, he can sing (and Im not being a mom here). Oh my. I can see I can be such a witch to his girlfriends someday (Like my Mom, ack, Hello Lola!).

When his name was called on stage, I was so very much beaming with pride. And then they sang at the end and they gave their parents a single stemmed rose and I cried.

Beautiful things do this to me.
Too bad Edil needed to stay so he can take care of Martha (He knew it was more important for me to go, since I know the importance of having a parent present in awards days when I was a kid).

And you know, for once, I need to really tell you.
All Matthew got from me, perhaps, is some intelligence genes.
And I paid for his tuition. Yes. I gave him what I OUGHT to provide.

But dude. This award, it was all his. His credit.
I never ever doted on his school work. He worked alone, studied alone, reminded me which papers to sign.

All the contests his teachers made him enter we didnt even practice and prepare for. All I told him was, dont be nervous, it’s OK if you dont win, as long as you experience competition. Its going to be good for you.

And then hed still be in fourth or fifth place.

My son.
The places he can go.

Hi! Im Matthew’s Mom.

I cried while reading this Aggie. Katouch really. I’ve seen Matthew grow through the years, I’m really sure he will grow up to be like he is now.

You want to be Matthew’s Mom but to him, I’m sure he is proud to be Aggie’s son! God bless.

you brought back memories of my past :D. i was the kid who had to fend for herself too (in an empty house); i studied alone, i did my own work and bothered my parents only when it was time for signing something for the teacher. i’ll steal your words — (everything i ever accomplished), it was (all) mine. and it still wasn’t a happy place.

i could turn this into a novel right here — but i won’t hahaha. congrats to matthew, this was a REALLY touching post.

Congrats to Matthew! I’m happy for you and Edil that you have kids that is the source of joy and pride. *sniff* Ayan, naluha na ako.

I’m pretty sure Matthew is happy because he made you proud and happy. Dati ganyan din ako with Mato. Our parents never really helped us with school stuff, pero inspiration ko sila to do my best kasi gusto ko sila pinaakyat sa stage and see that proud look in their faces. Same din sa mga contests.

And I’m thankful din na i got their good genes. Hehehehe. (Kaya I can very well relate to this post of yours)
