Jack of All Trades

My Dad jokingly once told me he is a Jack of All Trades but a Master of None. He can tinker with mechanical, electrical and even plumbing tools (even Ingersoll Rand air tools) but cannot finish them without help in the process. He knows the basics but has no “specialty” as he claims.

What would you rather be? A Jack of All Trades or a Master of One?

Brain Fried.

Taking a break from work (and trying to squeeze in some blog assignments, hehe). Only a few more evaluations to go and I can go home. And then I need to squeeze in a load of laundry, because tomorrow we will be going to Amadeo and both of us will work on Monday - so we need new work clothes. Hectic busy days. Starting November 1 though, I dont have to report for work, so I will be back November 6 — yep, you read that right - six days. Then our househelp goes on leave on the 8th and then I am on leave again, LOL.

I seriously am so tired - all the commute and housework. Wish ko lang pumayat ako eh (Which can be done kasi walang nagluluto sa amin ngayun, hahahaha!). I also do the housework. I threw three black garbage bags last night just cleaning our room, and that involves just one cabinet. I need to get a Miele vacuum though. There are some dust that needs suctioning and cannot go away with just sweeping. As always, my rhinitis acted up afterwards.

Of EQ and Diapers.

Let this serve as a lesson learned well. Martha, being a baby girl, has always used a certain brand of protective underwear or diaper ever since she was born - a clue can be found in my blog post title *wink* (Add the word “Dry”). I figured since we were breastfeeding, I can afford to get her nice pampers :D. So it continued until this year. A month ago, I decided to cut corners in our budget, and since Martha will be turning 18months soon, I figured I can start the slow walk to potty training. So I bought overrun diapers you will normally see in the market - around 110pesos for around 15pieces I think. Martha (specifically her tush) surprisingly accepted it well. I still have her in branded diapers when we go out and at night, but the savings we get cannot be beat! Hopefully, next year, the pampers expense will be gone. I plan to stick with Gain Plus until she turns 3, or until she wants milk. (We have a strong history of milk “sawa”. I stopped drinking milk at 2 years old and so did Matthew.)

Land of the Best Coffee Beans

That’s the sales pitch of the tourism department for Amadeo, Cavite. The place we stay is about lands (farms?) aways from Figaro’s coffee farm. Right beside that is a horse ranch. Amadeo is a very rural county. Believe it or not, Meralco is just building its sub-station this year, and their main town doesn’t have Jollibee in it - you can mostly gauge the urbanity of a provincial town by the presence of fast food stores. The current prices of land for sale are very reasonable, but rumor has it land owners are holding back from selling since they are expecting a deluge of tourists coming in 2008. Our main goal is just to get a house there - three to four bedrooms, with a garage and garden, if you please. I still kick myself everytime I think about the three bedroom apartment which was huge which we let go - it was renting at four thousand pesos only! Would you believe?! Oh well, we cannot keep two houses at the same time, so we will begin the hunt again by December. By then, Matthew’s school is only three months away. I really wish we can have some big miracle next year that I’ll get loads of cash to transfer homes AND quit my job. Here’s to praying.

Burning an All-Nighter.

WOW. I think I might stay in the office more than 12 hours. I’m buried deep in work - and I had to make additional evaluations for my agents who did not perform well this week. Bummer. Add to that is I can’t buy my comfort food because payday is still four days away. Waaah.

Add to that is the fact that am struggling to keep juggling all the balls in my life in the air that I might end up losing all of them. I might need to give something up. Eek.

Hope all you are having a great weekend.

Christmas Stocking Stuffers

WOW! Christmas is really coming fast, dont you think? Next week, it will be November already and before you know it, Christmas will just be a few days away. The only finalized gift for the family is for Matthew - I still need to think about the others. I also have a lot of exchange gift giving with my online communities - the Bebot scrappers and the Mommy Bloggers. Just a tip - if you are looking for Christmas stocking stuffers, I would like to recommend taking a look at the Vat19 site and checking out DVDs they offer - for kids who are art fanatics, you can get them Art on a Shoestring and Rainy Day Art 1 and 2 DVDs. Since we do not have snow here too, you can just imagine a cozy fireplace without the warmth by using the
Ambient Fire fireplace DVD . It comes complete with songs!

Blogging Tip No.1

BACK UP.

Seriously. I would have lost $50.00 today if I didn’t have a back up of my posts. A paid post was migrated during the host transfer and was rejected earlier. Fortunately, I still have a copy of the post in my old host server.

BACK UP.

;)

I hope I get paid today. LOL.

Flower Power!

Two Dozen Birthday CarnationsI really do not like getting flowers as presents. But I love flowers in general. Living near the central flower market of the city, I have been exposed to the variety of flowers, its prices, the corresponding fluctuation during changing seasons, the rates on flowers delivery, and different flower arrangements. During the planning of my wedding, I only had one request - to have carnations as flowers for my wedding bouquet. Carnations are a bit expensive here, but I just love how they look when they are bundled up together. It looks very regal, romantic, elegant and unique, don’t you think? I have always loved roses before. But I guess with the commoness of it, it wore out from my favorites. My wedding bouquet was a bundle of carnations and roses - all shades of pink! - my favorite color. I should go show and feature them sometime. I just might!!!

I took an interest in answering this :D
From Five on Friday (since it is Friday! LOL)

1. What is your favorite color?
Pink. Brown. Shades of Green as of late.

2. What colors do you like to decorate with?
Neutral colors - white or brown. With bursts of color. I havent had the chance to get our own place to live in so I really can’t answer this.

3. Is there a color that you absolutely hate?
Hmmm. I hated yellow when I was a kid - and yet I love it now. So it is best not to give any definite answers - I hate neon colors though.

4. Which colors look best on you?
Hmmmm..It depends I guess. I’m big so dark colors camouflage my width, but pinks and yellows make my skin glow.

5. Which colors do you wear most often?
Blues. LOL.

I’m tagging all the Mommy Bloggers! Leave a comment when you are done so I can take a look!

I’m in the hunt for books for my kids. I can easily get books for the princess, but what usually is the reading material of kids aged 7years old these days? According to market research, most in that age group are in Grade 1. Are they too old for fairy tales? What stories should I encourage Matthew to read? Is he too young for paperbacks? I like to hone his reading skills and get him involved with reading since I am noticing his addiction to Pokemon is increasing. I’m not against it as long as his studies and study habits are not affected. But I also would like to give him more options or hobbies.

Any suggestions?

Question of the Day

Thea asked me this question:

My question: What song is your favorite to sing, when asked, on the “magic-sing”? (C’mon don’t be shy…)

Oh my, I have to be honest here and say I really don’t sing — Im such a killjoy in videoke bars. But if forced, I will most likely sing any Carpenter Song (because husky bedroom voice si ako! LOL). But if I can choose, and if I have the voice, Id love to belt out Regine or Mariah songs - or any song for that matter, basta carry ng vocal range ko. LOL.

Pink Shark

One of the things most families here would need this season is international phone cards. Most of the families here in the Philippines have at least one family member who works overseas and during Christmas time, or anytime for that matter, they burn phone lines keeping touch with each other. So naturally, everybody will be looking for great deals. One of the deals I have found is saving 80% of long distance calls by getting international phone cards from Pink Shark! They offer over 800 diffrerent calling cards for different companies. The Hello Asia Continental phone card is a connection fee calling card provided by SPRINT and has the Philippines listed with the following time: Philippines 43 min. Cell 28 min.. It will be such a huge savings for us to get this!
