For the Love (and Hate) of Eating.

I am one of those people who really love to eat. I can even go as far as admit that I am an emotional eater. When I am happy, I eat to celebrate. When I am depressed, I eat to comfort myself. So it really is hard for me to go on diets. Do I have an eating disorder? I think so - I might, but it is just very very slight. I think mine can be solved without treatment, just a change and refocus on other things not just on food alone. However, there are other major eating disorders, which I know most of you know. These are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. Anorexia is dieting to the extreme and Bulimia is bingeing out on food then purging. These disorders need help and people suffering from it need to seek treatment. Here in our country, I dont think we have a center primarily focused for this disorders. In the US, specifically in New York, there is a eating disorder center called Avalon. These types of disorder is a multi-specialty problem - they would need to be referred to a medical doctor to treat their (mal)nutrition and a psychiatrist because this is primarily a form of mental health problem. Avalon Centers offer a partial in-care admission program for teenagers 14 years old and older and adults. For those from out of the area, an apartment-style living quarters are available for overnight stays.
