It looks as if I was back in college again. I wore the ever boring white uniform for Med Tech students at UST and I was trying to get to class on time and still be dry.
Except I needed to go to work in Makati, on time and still be dry (and not look like a wet duck!). Typhoon Dodong has been raised to Signal No.2 today, and since Im part of the workforce that doesnt believe in natural calamities, I needed to go to work – on time.
Fortunately, there are tri-sikads which can take me to LRT. And LRT, surprisingly, wasnt crowded. I was able to sit myself comfortably from the Tayuman station to Buendia. Buendia was another story. There were no buses nor taxi cabs in sight. I managed to get into an ordinary-fare bus, standing of course, and the Buendia-Washington area was flooded, as always. Not so impressive for the Central Business Hub of the Philippines, eh?
I got there in time, too early. 7.26AM. I was dry from the waist up, and my pants are OK. My sandals would be another sory.
5PM. I try to go home. Riding the FX was easy. We were in Espana in 20 minutes. WOW! Suspending classes proved to be an advantage.
Pero naman.
Once you hit Lacson, Forbes, everything transforms into ankle deep wave of dirty water. And since I simply refuse to pay 60 pesos for a trisikad to get me home by driving 4 blocks, I walk. Traffic was so bad anyway.
Thank God SM San Lazaro is now built, so our part of Dimasalang isnt flooded. Or course, the other side, the Dangwa Flower Market, is another story.
Just another day in Dimasalang, people. It doesnt get any easier. But at least I didnt walk in thigh-high black trash water now.

arggh! This reminds me, 1994 my birthday, class got suspended at 9:30 am after we got into class, we lived in Caloocan. Taft near Luneta and Manila Cityhall was flooded boob-deep. The usual. No LRT, Jeep and what not. I ended up walking the other way from Pedro Gil to Baclaran, that is after my friend and I walked from Paco to Taft. Once in Baclaran, we took a bus that took us to Sangangdaan where I walked again approximately 2 miles to home. Needless to say I got home at 8pm, hungry, tired and soaking wet. All my day’s allowance was spent on P5 phonecalls to mamu every hour to update her on where I was and the rest was pamasahe. What a way for a birthday no!
That was my memorable (but not in a good way) birthday. Hopefully this year’s is better!
Hay the living in Manila with bagyo talaga. Kakaiba.

Hello Nadia
Thank you for taking time to comment on my blog. I live on the areas you mentioned
. And while I have been living here for 10 years and have learned how to maneuver myself to the non flooded areas, hassle pa din lagi. I will never get used to the floods here.

Hello Dodong! Goodness, my blog was on the top 10 results?! I hope they find some information from the search then!
Thanks for taking time to comment. We are now good here – floods in our area have gone down, but there are still cities buried with flood waters

hi aggie! finally naayos na rin ang comments ng blog mo…
my MIL was in that area that same day… at super proud siya kasi naka-kalesa siya… at siya lang daw hindi inabutan ng baha. *LOL* i can imagine kung gaano kagrabe ang baha diyan… si dex umuwi ng bahay na basa ang pants niya up to knee area… kulang nalang magswimming na siya along buendia para lang makauwi. hehe buti nalang nasa bahay pa ako up to now. *LOL*
